Millsport program for Frito Lay's SunChips brand earns HALO Award
Mar 1, 2007
DALLAS -- A cause marketing program developed by Millsport for Frito Lay's SunChips brand has been awarded a Silver Halo for Best Cause Marketing Event. Created by the Cause Marketing Forum, the Cause Marketing Halo Awards are American cause marketing's highest honor -- and the subject of an annual special section in Advertising Age.SunChips, Frito Lay's line of multigrain snacks, partnered with the Komen Race for the Cure® Series National Volunteer Recognition Program. As part of the sponsorship, SunChips partnered with more than 110 local Komen Race for the Cure® events to recognize the dedication and contribution of the more than 75,000 volunteers who make these events a success. The partnership also includes the SunChips Crunch for the Cure™ national pink ribbon bag promotion.
As the exclusive sponsor of the Komen Race for the Cure® National Volunteer Recognition Program, SunChips recognizes the thousands of volunteers across the country who dedicate their time to the Race by hosting a “Volunteer Thank You Wall” where event participants and breast cancer survivors can post their personal thank you notes for the Race volunteers. The postings from more than 100 local Komen Race for the Cure® events are collectively posted at the last event in 2006 in San Diego. SunChips also offers a hospitality area for volunteers at local events.
The Komen Race for the Cure® Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. These events celebrate breast cancer survivorship and honor those who have lost their battle with the disease. The largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, the Komen Race for the Cure® Series has grown from one local Race with 800 participants in Dallas, Texas, in 1983 to a series of more than 100 Races with more than one million people expected to participate this year.
"The Cause Marketing Halo Awards demonstrate the good that can be done when businesses and nonprofits team up ," said David Hessekiel, president of Cause Marketing Forum, Inc., the program's organizer. "It's a competition in which we all win."
