Who do you trust among NASCAR drivers?
Dec 15, 2008
Do you trust these people in NASCAR?
The Davie Brown Index, which rates that measures the perception people have of celebrities and sports stars has come out with its latest ranking for NASCAR and other race drivers. This is used in the marketing world as companies look who to best align with in reaching as great an audience as possible.
Among NASCAR drivers, you the fan put all your heart and faith into Dale Earnhardt Jr. and whatever he's selling. He ranked first in in the index's nine categories, including trust, appeal, influence and passion (how much of it a particular person stirs in fans).
So, who was No. 2?
Jeff Gordon?
Nope. He didn't even make the top five after ranking ahead of Dale Jr. in early 2007.
Kyle Busch?
No.
Jimmie Johnson?
He ranked fifth.
So, who was second? Mark Martin. Tony Stewart was third and Jeff Burton was fourth. It's a bit of a change from early in 2007 when the top five featured (in no order) Dale Jr., Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Tony Stewart and Michael Waltrip.
“The top five NASCAR drivers have at least one of three things in common,” said Ken Cohn, a vice president with Millsport that is owned by the same company as the group that provides this index. “First, they’re consistently competitive on the track. Fans consider these drivers to be ‘in the mix’ to win. Second, these drivers have a history of winning, especially in recent seasons. Or, they have strong legacies, meaning that they have an association with winning championships.”
As for Indycar racing the top five drivers were: Helio Castroeneves, Tony Kanaan, Danica Patrick, Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon.
